It is New Year's Eve in Phnom Penh.

The locals are gathering in front of the Pavilion at the Royal Palace which faces the Mekong River. The King uses the Pavilion to view any procession for special occasions.

It is late afternoon, and the locals are choosing the best place to sit to enjoy the atmosphere, and to view the fireworks set off at midnight. The atmosphere here is cosy as families and couples seized the opportunity to gather and meet friends or enjoy the special occasion. Vendors are selling local delicacies (sausage, barbequed meat balls, steamed snails from the rice fields, fried tarantulas, grilled snakes) , balloons, bubble guns, light sticks...
