Photographer's Note

Up at the old abandoned hill station of Bokor which lies in the Bokor national park at an altitude of 1080m there is also an old Catholic church. This is the interior of the church. During the fighting with the invasion of the Vietnamese in 1979 the Khmer Rouge held out at the hill station for several months, and one unit was inside this Catholic church whilst being shot at from the Bokor Palace only 500m away. Some people think that some of the drawings and writing is from the soldiers. The hill station has since remained uninhabited, except for the presence of either Vietnamese troops or Khmer Rouge guerrillas during much of the 80's and 90's.
