Photographer’s Note
Halloween night and a young reservist with the 29th Infantry Division (Virginia, USA)writes to his fiance while waiting for orders during a routine security patrol. This unit is part of the "Stonewall Brigade", named during the Battle for Manassas in the American Civil War and made famous as the first unit ashore on Omaha Beach during the invasion of Normandy in World War II. On active combat duty for the first time since, the 116th Infantry Brigade was responsible for security in Ghazni and Wardak provinces leading up to and through Afghanistan's historic elections in October 2004.
