Photographer’s Note
While making the trip from Kabul to Taloqan via the Salang Pass, I took this photo from the side of the road. The sun was just beginning to set, the grass was green, and this abandoned compound caught my eye. The road was lined on both sides with red and white painted rocks, which meant landmines on each side of us. Afghanistan is one the heaviest mined countries in the world. It is estimated that there are up to 10 million land mines placed throughout the country. 10 to 12 people are maimed or killed by these mines each day...most being women and children. The "untouchableness" of this place gave it a mysterious aura.

Hi James,
Yes, a nice one. I like the smooth tones of it. Do you know what that compound is supposed to be? Nice colors of the mountains range in the background. TFS!

It is very mysterious. I wonder if it is modern concrete or... ancient civilization snd stone. Maybe extra terrestrial !
Great image.

Scary thinking that you cannot even walk to interesting looking places because there are mines everywhere.
Very smooth colors that make the mountains in the background almost apear to be cushions.
