Silkroad travels: Wakhan
The view South from the Wakhan valley into the Afghan Wakhan corridor reveals a gravel delta formed by a river coming out of the Hindukush mountains . The delta is frequently remodeled and therefore makes agriculture or road building impossible. The Wakhan corridor can be travelled on the Afghan side from Kunduz and Faizabad but only with heavy duty vehicles and a lot of patience. The mountains in the background reach 5000 m and more. On our side of the Wakhan (or Panj) river (the Tajikistan side) there is a reasonable road that connects the valley to the Pamir highway and ultimately the Chinese border .
The road was historically a secondary Silkroad leg, leading from Balck- Kunduz- Faizabat to the Pamir and over the Saritash pass to China. It crossed the Panj river in Sultan Ishkashim where today a new bridge has been erected.
The menu "Map: View" brings you to the point where the shot was taken near Niszhgar. The pointer is at the foothills of Karl Marx peak, 6723 m. If you zoom back to see the Wakhan valley.

beautiful scene. A very finely planned and crafted image with a superb perspective and pov. The colours and textures are nice too. Overall the image has a lot of impact and is very pleasing. Good work.

Hallo Dieter!
Hier wäre vom Klima her noch Landwirtchaft möglich!? Unglaublich ...

Dietrich,
Beautiful portrayal of such a bleak, vast, and high desert landscape. It looks so peaceful...

Hi Dietrich. The desolateness of this place is overwhelming; the view is impressive. Must have been a very interesting trip.

Hallo Dieter,

Cordialement
Christian
