Photographer's Note

Niger forms part of the vast Sahelian cultural region of western Africa.
The Haussa form the major ethnic group in Niger (53%). They settled in the south between Dogondoutchi and Zinder and are usually farmers, traders and craftsmen. The Djerma and Songhay represent 21.2 % of the population and are found to the west and east of the river Niger respectively. The majority are farmers. Members of the Peulh ethnic group are found all around the country and represent 9.9 % of the total population. The remainder of the population belong to various ethnic groups such as the Kanouri, Touareg, Toubou, Gourmantche, and Arabs. Foreigners account for only 0.2% of the population.
The lady in the first plane is peulh and the other one is haoussa.
