Deep from my dry cabinet...
My version of the famous landmark - Hassan II Mosque, in Casablanca which needs no introduction. It was a shot in an analogue world way back in Dec 2000 on a brilliant early morning light.
Film requires self-belief, commitment and a willingness to make a pillock of ourself. But, like anything where success depends on riding the wave and trusting our own judgement, then we are entitled to whoop when it works! Shooting with positive slide film - known for its lesser tolerance in exposure compensation than negative film - and manual settings aided by a hand held light meter, teaches me a lot about photography since I took up this hobby way back in 1971 when I first owned a rangefinder Yashica Electro 35 camera. It also teaches me to respect for the tradition without which innovation can have no real meaning.
I strongly believe that an elderly 35 mm SLR Nikon camera coupled with any of the very many disregarded fixed focal length lenses may rock the soul of even a D800 user!! But I won't live in the past, I look back with a degree of nostalgia and a wry smile........
22 year old 35 mm SLR manual-focus NIkon FA, Nikkor 20mm f2.8 lens, Kodachrome ASA 64 Slidefilm, 62mm Nikon Polariser and 1992 Sekonic L-248 light meter

No shot from the hip this time but a carefully managed photo of a building standing firmly in its place. The well known mosque is incredibly impressive, not least against this backdrop of light clouds. This photo doesn't seem to have lost any of its original clarity and brightness in almost 15 years and it is hard to realize that it has gone through a scanning process.

This is a striking photo of a magnificent building. The light is dramatic, and the minaret looks really high from this perspective. Interesting clouds too.

Belo trabalho, amigo.
Parabéns e Abraço,

Well Abmdsudi, it looks almost done on digital camera, a superbly scanned old stuff.
POV is most effective, show from a fairly distant position, but show the whole tower and edifice. Light and sky in blue are the main assets for this compo.
Fine photojob, my cong.'s,

Bonjour cher Abmdsudi,,
Une composition de 15 ans d'âge, et quelle image proposée !
La qualité photographique est remarquable.
De plus, la mise en image est réalisé avec maestria.

A very attractive photograph of this elegant and impressive mosque with the soft sandstone colours against the cloudy blue sky. I like your upward POV and how the minaret points majestically to the sky. The deserted square enhances the feeling of space and hugeness of the building. Very well taken.

Your pov makes this beautiful mosque even more grand! It looks like it is reaching for heaven, which is the purpose of this mosque. Excellent conversion from film with good colors and good saturation. Details are superb with good tonal range. Very well done, tfs.

Not people this time but a very well composed capture of the mosque enhanced by the very eye catching sky
Not reading note or title, it will stand for a photo taken with a sophisticated digital one, hope you continue looking for old ones
Excellent informative note

Hi dear Abmdsudi YTH
Wow so stunning mosque against marvelous blue sky with white clouds. Widefocus lens appraoch is the best match with this situation. I like this color touch so much, and I remind that you are a great photographer.
All the best and have a good day! Takero

Gorgeous view of the Casablanca Mosque. Old analog cameras were very good and in the hands of good photographers produced marvelous picture, but expensicve, with the cost of the film. One must have been very careful with the composition. Now click click, I can made hundred photos easily and with no cost.

This is superb image. Great architecture building. Sky colour is very nice and natural. YOu have capture the entire building area in one go. That is interesting. We can see the panoramic view too. I like it.
ourania (51079) 2015-07-21 2:37
your skill to handle a grand theme like this in very strong light and shadows is admirable, you produced a magnificent picture that gives us the opportunity to see the enormous building in its entirety. We can appreciate the elegant, elaborate traits of the architecture, enjoy both colours and shadows, feel the dynamism of the perspective and enjoy a fascinating skyscape that also affects the atmosphere. The positive slide film in the old Nikon was in very good hands. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,
mkamionka (39943) 2015-07-21 7:18
wow this is quite an impressive picture. I like the extraordinary light here: so warm. Great side light too with lovely shades introducing the 3D effect. Nice perspective from below. Finally: spectacular sky!
Great destination, fantastic architecture and a master piece of photography!
Regarding the analog versus digital:
at analog times I could never afford to have better lenses so I cannot really tell.. I was able to purchased slightly better lenses couple of years ago and immediately seen a difference in my photos. Sadly now I have almost no time for photography. I see also that the new generations of cameras offer so much more and my camera is actually falling apart... So I love photography but slowly I have less and less time, money and opportunities to actually enjoy it...
Digital means for me huge savings as the printed photos took so much space, and get damaged easily...

Lep pogled i trenutak ...
Beautiful view and a moment ...
Interesting and good text about your work and technique with which you are working ...
Nice demonstrated mosques and details on the facade, good sharpness and contrast nicely captured the moment with light, which highlighted the beauty of the architecture.
Have a good day, all the best for the weekend, good luck.

looking at this shot alone makes me want to travel to Casablanca!!!!!
Oh I can't wait to get a scene like this on my own wide angle lens :)
you have a superior shot in your gallery with this one my friend.
love the wide open sky in behind, it truly does make it seem so much larger.
A+ in my books

Beautiful colours and contrast of slide film! Very true, your remarks in the note, and it's interesting to know your photographic background. I also used to shoot on film a lot, before I converted to digital. Never looked back, but yes, those shots can be a work of art.

très belle réalisation sur ce superbe et impressionnant édifice religieux. Le ciel et la lumière t'ont bien aidé à le mettre en valeur.
Très bon travail.

Oh wow. This is such a stunning photo. Every element has aligned with the photographer to create an unforgettable and very artistic image/ The light is superb, the clouds and deep blue sky are magical, the reflections on the tiled floor blow me away and I love the low POV, making this mosque even grander and more awe-inspiring (if that's possible). Congratulations, this is a corker! And proof positive that oldies are often goodies.
PS: you did not make a pillock of yourself :)
npecanhuk (78549) 2015-07-28 4:30
Very beautiful and attractive picture!
Sharpness, exposure, colors, horizontal format, contrasts, chosen pov and composition are all excellent!

Salam Abmdsudi. Ah, the days when a photographer really had to know what he or she was doing with the camera and whether analogue or digital, you seem to be always in command. Great POV in which the sky plays an important part as a darker canvas agains which the sunlight illuminates the beautiful and majestic mosque. The deeds of Man can be uplifting when inspired by acts of devotion. But then it takes money, artisans, taxes on the populace and an enormous ego as well to leave something like this after one is gone. Nevertheless, it is a mosque fit to rival anything built anywhere. Regards and best wishes. Klaudio.

Good evening and happy start to the week.

Yes, a lovely analog photo scanned masterfully lives on in the digital era. I remember film photography. I had a Yashica FX3 as my serious camera. Back then I was a poor graduate student and the cost of film made me think twice before I clicked. Most often, I did not find out whether I had got it right until after I returned home and sent my slides away.
Back to the photo, a lovely wide angle capture of an iconic landmark.
