Photographer's Note

Various styles of columns embossed with carvings beside the Hypostyle Hall. The woman at left is sensibly standing in the shade on a very hot day of 48c. She provides scale. The Karnak temple complex was added to by many successive pharaohs over the millennia (and also subtracted from too, by later pharaohs who didn't approve of a prior pharaoh: there are several destroyed sections where only rubble and stones remain).
