Photographer's Note

The sitting statue of Ramesses reminded me a funny situation which I have witnessed on this trip. We went to Abu Simbel in a bus trip from Aswan. Busses from all hotels were going altogether in a convoy guarded by the armed soldiers. The trip took several hours and some of tourists were going by small busses. I remember sitting on the bus which was driving through the empty flat desert, no place to hide at all. Suddenly one of the little busses stopped blocking the road so all other busses stopped as well. A person run out of a little bus. He was in rush. Everybody from the convoy stared since it was an unexpected situation. The guy kept running and suddenly took off his trousers and... lost something. It happened too quickly to turn our heads away… The poor fellow had a characteristic curly red hair. And when we arrived at Abu Simbel he was clearly standing out of the crowd.

As you may know many visitors to Egypt experience something what is sometimes called a Pharaoh’s curse, meaning variety of problems with digestion, the most common symptom being a diarrhoea.
