Photographer's Note

At the foot of the volcano and at the edge of the caldera.
On the volcanic island of Fogo, "island of fire" with the view of lava flows dominated by the Pic do Fogo which rises to 2829 meters. The crater forms a caldera about 9 km in diameter.
The last major eruption was in December 2014.
An impressive and photogenic landscape!

Hello Jean,

It isn't easy to convey the brooding nature of a volcano, especially on a sunny day, but you have managed it extremely well.
The very well collected details of the f/g rocks and debris sets the scene effectively, before we move to the steep, ridged sides of the volcano, totally dominating the skyline.
It's awesome!

Bonjour Jean,

Cela doit être très impressionnant d'arriver face à face avec un aussi beau spectacle. C'est quand même de la terre brûlée qui prend des couleurs de rouille.Mais est-ce que je vois une maison sur la gauche.

Hi Jean.

My first thought: Is this place suitable for volcano boarding, perhaps? It very much looks so. Just a business idea if any locals are reading this. As of today, only two destinations offer that experience. And frankly, Vanuatu isn't the most accessible country. Nicaragua is far away. It would be a good way to tempt me I know.

It's interesting to see that Cabo Verde has more than beaches and picturesque villages. The volcanoes are also a sight. Thanks!

Bonjour Jean,
I am so glad that you went for your holidays to Cape Verde. It is high on my list although probably this year I won't manage to go there anymore. Indeed when I planned my imaginary trip there I thought about a day trip to Fogo because I have seen some photos with the flowing lava from there, but since you don't show it I suppose they could have been the old photos? Did you see any flowing lava by yourself?
This amazing peak which you present with its conical volcanic shape is worth the trip itself and the colors you captured and so varied. It reminds me my hike in Haleakala Volcano on Maui.
Great asymmetric composition. Fantastic reportage!
