Photographer's Note
Nha Maria, like other mães d'fidje, she is a hard-working woman, from São Vicente Island, Cape Verde.
Nha Maria is also a strong woman; she has a farm in Ribeira da Vinha (Rbera d'Vinha, in Cape-Verdean language). Among her activities, she raises goats and makes cheese (see a goat in other photo). She usually walks the long way from her farm (in the interior of the island) down to Mindelo city, where she sells fresh goats milk and cheese.
We visited Nha Maria in Rbera d'Vinha, where she invited us to her home; that's this snapshot.
In the workshop I made a fake stamp with this picture. I think Nha Maria should be honoured in a real postage stamp, as a symbol and tribute to the Cape-Verdean working women.

It sounds as if she has a hard life and yet she looks fresh and healthy. You have eye contact with her and yet it is not a posed portrait; it's as if she is busy telling you a story - about her goats maybe. I like the goat in the WS. She has such an intelligent expression on her face - for a goat. You show a good slice of daily life with your note and pictures.

Estupendo retrato de esta señora con una cara muy expresiva. Los colores bien conjuntados, la indumentaria de la mujer y la fachada de la casa. Excelentes detalles.

Uma pose muito natural, sem qualquer aparência de encenação, e muito simpática, dá mesmo a sensação de nos estar a convidar a entrar na sua casa.

I wanted to let you know that your Olivença - Olivenza theme was featured on the home page today and I came across this lovely portrait, I'd love to know the story she's telling you. Goats are just amazing. There's an organization lets you buy animals for families in different countries. Anything from a goat to a camel.
