Photographer's Note
The Cabo Verde version of Aldi. Not on the photo: On the right it said specialised in imports.
While rare in Germany, in Mindelo there's a huge number of small shops (Mercearias) that sell all kind of daily products from milk to batteries to tea bags, cigarettes, alcohol ... The problem to me seemed that almost all of the stuff is imported: Milk from Germany, tuna fish from Portugal, tea from england and cookies from Italy. You can even buy german style "Frankfurt Sausages" from Portugal.
I am aware that most of the stuff is difficult to produce in Cabo Verde, but what about the fish for example? To me, and i am not an economy expert, it seemed like Cabo Verde is an ideal export market for the EU. The question is who profits more from this...
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION from LEO 61:
fishing rights have been sold to the chinese, so there is probably not much fish left for Cabo Verdians, a problem lots of african countries face at the moment.
FYI: In Mindelo (roughly) 40 % of shops are owned by chinese, usually called Loja Chines, in Sal Rei i found 9 out of 11 shops owned by chinese, there they are just called Mercearia and have a chinese name.

Hi Franz!
