Great Floydian 2009-06-02 5:07

Kristine ;-)

What a surprise...how nice to call this in my footsteps ;-)
It's a small park, but you made it and more important, you made it in creating a Fuji Velvia 50 colour shot. The deep red and blue, so typical Utah when having the best light.
It's good having rain, after that the colours are even more intense, but too much rain can spoil everything of course. But this is one is really beautiful (better than mine..!!!). I love those dark red peaks standing proud above against the deep blue sky, and also the grass in front in a green/yellow toning. Our footsteps are mixed because more or less we stood at the same spot...how weird ;-)
How was the trip, had a good time together, not too much rain i hope and did you get the things you were hoping for?

Regards,

Henk

Henk :)

I tell myself that in the desert the rain is a blessing, but imagine standing in Kodachrome Basin, looking at all these strange formations, and seeing that everything looks gray - no shadows, no depth, just a dull, gray light (if you can call it a "light" at all...). we also had a chance to stop by the Grand Canyon - again, try to imagine big gray cloud COMPLETELY covering the sky and the Canyon, no colours, no textures, nothing. worst of all - imagine beeing in the Antylope Canyon with NO LIGHT at all, just dark gray shapes of the walls all around you... as a result I have many, many photos of POTENTIALLY great places, given better light.

but despite this, I enjoyed the trip a lot. we explored many backroads, and we know we will want to go back to the area, so I consider last week as "getting to know the place" trip.

best,
Kristine

I just told Kristaps how much bad luck you had with the weather and that is very rare for May...a real pity, despite this great shot that you took off in Kodachrome. Some clouds of course can be great, but this was all too much what you had. Did you still did the Antelope walk, was it worth it with this weather knowing that no light fall inside the canyon you would miss the light beams?
That whole state is a potential highlight for taking landscapes....so hopefully next time more luck once being there.
At least your Kodachrome shot is a real winner and much better than mine....

Take care,

Henk
