Great tyro 2019-03-10 6:04

Hello Bev,

Gosh, how wonderful that Mrs. Robinson should post a photograph of such a remarkable Heath Robinson contraption as this!! :)

I just love how some clever and inventive individual has used parts of an old bicycle to provide quite a sophisticated reduction gearing to rotate that spit slowly with the aid of an old relatively high speed electric motor (which was probably stolen from an old washing machine).

I admire the ingenuity of the inventor who obviously thought this contraption would save him/her from the dreadful work of a mediaeval "spit boy"!

Very well seen and captured with good light, natural colours and excellent clarity.

Kind Regards,

P.S. That roasting meat looks delicious - did you sample it?

Hello MAlgo,

Thank you for your comment and, especially, the link. Wikipedia had a very long article about the dam and the controversies surrounding it. And, at the moment, the states and Mexico, that use the water from the Colorado river are having embroiled in negotiations over how to divy-up that water should the level in Lake Meade (in particular) fall below a specific level as the region has been in drought conditions for nearly 20 years. Fortunately, the region has seen more precipitation so far this winter/spring than has been usual, so they can continue dithering without signing an agreement or having water rationing imposed by the federal government.

Warm regards,
