Re: Beyong the obvious (blog)

I must admit that I hadn't noticed this detail in the "Terms of use" (link here:
http://www.internetbrands.com/ib/terms/travel?site=trekearth.com&hasRSS=true )

But it sure confirms my decision for a "time-out" from TE as I in no way is interested in loosing all rights to my work as a prize of posting photos at TrekEarth where it now seems as the owners Internet Brands is behind a rather unethical way of operating vs. commercial use of our work.

Probably I will need to think about if a "time-out", originally for awaiting better information and communicating from the owners, should be extended to a complete deletion of my close to 1000 posted photos. I hesitate both for the work behind those photos but also of respect for people who have used their time to shown interest in their comments and critics.

I'll integrate this forum post and your link in my project page <a href="http://www.johanson.info/te">http://www.johanson.info/te</a>

No wonder that many photographers have already left this community, some are leaving right at this moment and many others are considering deleting first their entire galleries and eventually their accounts as well!

We asked for better copyright protection - and this is what we've got in return!

Does anyone need more reasons for abandoning this sinking ship?!?!?

Jack, thanks for moving this forum post forward!

In the FAQ section it still says:

"Q: How may I purchase a print or digital image?
A: You must contact the photographer directly by clicking the 'Contact Me' link next to the photographer's name in their 'Intro' page. In order to do so you will need to register with TrekEarth first. If you still have problems contacting the photographer, please email copyright@trekearth.com with your request and it will be forwarded to them. Excessive requests may not be processed."

I hope it'll stay that way.

I just posted a reply to Jean-Yves (Pixel Terror) on the same issue. It is relevant here if you want to have a <a href='http://www.trekearth.com/read.php?f=1&t=721142&m=993153&tt=flat,target=_bla nk>look</a>.

Re: Beyong the obvious (blog)

I think people might be jumping the gun just a bit... realistically, if Internet Brands had interest had interest in selling our work; don't you think they'd be a bit more intent on finding higher res and larger versions?

Just my opinion,
- Dan

Dan,
I see where you're coming from, but with today's technologies the present resolution (TE standard) is not an issue at all... there's a huge market for this particular format as well, not only for the high resolution images!

Re: Beyong the obvious (blog)

IMHO the main issue here is the possibility of picking up the photos they want to illustrate their other sites, like wikitravel. TE becames a very very cheap source...

Isabel
