Would have preferred this anywhere around the frame, centre not working for me, but to catch beautiful girl in hijab without intruding into her physical space is a job well done..you have managed to remain invisible in this one too..

i thought this was the cliched concept of partial desat, and i am so so happy it is not. a similar mood, i love the presence of the man with the his shirt open, probably to beat the heat. this could very well be the scene of an old chinese movie. love the red in there, the communist red, is it ? ;)

    nice to see you bro...

A visit to northern iraq in 2014, there has to be purpose and strong faith, an open-mindedness, values and respect, qualities that i see you possess, and i don't know you enough. if you travelled for work or as a personal journey to understand the plight of a nation which has lost so much. to see, believe, connect and photograph, i think the series is a gem. the boys represent the two sides of a country still struggling from the after effects of a "war", decades of persecution. while one is still cynical, skeptical about your presence, chooses to hide his identity, chooses not to open up, i think it speaks more about his mind than his body language. The other is the optimistic one, with a faint smile, unsure but still holding onto faith. is that a rosary between his palms ? he wants to be the child who grows up normally, to ride, to swim and play, have a future, a life worth living.

this is such an important photo given the context and condition of a country ravaged by decades of war. your gallery chooses to show smiling faces of families and people and landscape. a breath of fresh air. The only time i get to see photos from iraq is through the work of photojournalists and freelance workers. They are addicted to showing hopelessness, loss, despair, the dark side with no future.

    Respect, admiration Kasia.

it is simplistic, minimal, beautiful poise of the woman, though i would prefer her to be a part of the bigger scene, maybe a wider shot, place her elsewhere in the frame, maybe entering the frame ? its all about arranging the rectangle, woos..i remember quotes from sergio larrain....

Hello Globe trotter, well first of all how come you have not visited india by now ? :)

you should have a fantastic time here and since photography is your forte i would suggest you travel asap. you will embark on a journey like no other.

well about these gimmicks that the locals are unto is just to make some extra pocket money, they don't usually expect but the sight to a western tourist could mean some handy cash, i was on one the basket boats in the coconut farms in Hoi An, central vietnam and the fisherman spun the basket around with quite incredible speed, like a top, like one of those theme park rides when you small, right? but it was all cool, he enjoyed it as much as i did. there was no signal, or suggestion that he wanted to be tipped at the end of it. but honestly, some damage is done, and i speak for myself and from what i have observed india. some foreign tourist who aspire to make photos end up paying the locals only for photographs ! to me, its not good taste, if you have to, you could just buy something on their behalf etc. what happens eventually, they expect it from every tourist who would want to make some candid photos too. They get aggressive, see it as a breach of private space or a dent in their business. Photography is not about that really. I think if you could smile and have a small conversation and exchange ideas, money is the last thing on their minds.

but these little gimmicks make your trip, tips aside. i like the photo and fact that you opted for a fast shutter to make the silhouettes stand out.

    cheers

    Hey Klaudio,

You have put the vantage point to good use, the perspective and the light, the perfect time to enjoy this. the eight sides, one minaret is a very moroccan thing too but doesn't look eight sided from here.

Lovely soft tones, a lovely slice of daily life, there is always a child in us. Upto us if we want to ignore it or or explore it..the woman on the extreme left, my first thought was that a nice juxtaposition with the mannequin but turn out to be the mother, the child looks at you suspiciously.."mama...why is that man taking out picture, tugging the hand of the mother."
    .
    .
incidentally, arnold Schwarzenegger was at madam tussads few days back and was posing like a wax statue and people gathered around him and admired how the was model looked so lifelike..one woman said "it looks so real" Arnold turned towards her and said "I am real" and the woman screamed and freaked out but only to have a great laugh....

    take care

nicely represented, the octagonal little fountain place with the blue tiles, i am here for that, its elegant and something that characterises the middle eastern daily life, there needs to be flowing water around where you live. maybe a cue from the Holy Quraan where it is said in repeated verses that once you attain paradise you shall be staying in gardens where fountains and streams flow underneath...

believe it or not, i could eat that all in a meal, maybe half the rice and the rest of it for sure, this typically could be ordered at any good indian restaurant. Indian cuisine has had its fair share of influences from the time of the Mughals to Rulers in Hyderabad who in turn were directly influenced from turkey and iran (the royalty from hyderabad used to marry turkish princesses for centuries)..

i see a table served for two, you wife had a bite, did you eat all that ?

I happened to flip through old photo books from time to time, weeks back it was Salgado's "workers". Manual labour is still dominant and effective in most parts of the world. i think it is a azritual, his photos portray the essence of that, work is worship and it only feels when you put your hands and legs into use. billions think like wise in india.

lovely photo dear Klaudio, the symmetry of frame within a frame with another frame works towards the visual appeal of this photo
